Sometimes they last for months; other times for weeks or even just days. But the graffiti that surfaces on Bushwick’s walls, particularly on those streets off the L line, are among NYC’s best. Here’s a small sampling of what we captured last month:

In its mission to “make the JMZ lines more colorful – one wall, one gate, one space at a time,” JMZ Walls has brought not only color, but intrigue and charm, to Broadway and Myrtle and its immediate vicinity. Here is a sampling:

With new murals outside and an array of artworks inside, Be Electric Studios on 1298 Willoughby Avenue is the site of a new exhibit featuring over 20 street muralists. Here are a few images captured hours before it opened last night.

It’s been busy at the Bushwick Collective with new murals surfacing by local, regional and international artists. Here’s a small sampling of what’s been going down:

And tomorrow — Wednesday evening — at 5pm, Tyson, a dear friend of the Bushwick Collective, is opening his doors to his new restaurant, Arrogant Swine, at 173 Morgan Avenue.
Bushwick Collective founder and curator Joe Ficalora invites the Bushwick Collective fam to head over there. Expect to dine and wine with DJ’s, fire breathers, free tattoos and more surprises, along with a newly completed mural by Sexer.

Featuring a wondrous array of characters in a diverse range of styles, What a Character — curated by See One — continues through September 11 at Low Brow Artique. Here are a few of the characters — from the comical to the surreal — that greet you:

Representing a range of artistic expressions from the comical to the spiritual, Exit Room’s current exhibit COROGRAFIA features works by members of Puerto Rico’s celebrated EL CORO graffiti crew. Here’s a sampling of what can be seen through today:
Located at 270 Meserole Street, right off the Montrose Ave. stop on the L train, the gallery space is open today, Sunday, from 5-8pm. Tentative plans for a closing party for August 2 are underway. Keep posted to Exit Room’s Facebook page for further details.

Also on view in the gallery — located at 426 Troutman Street — in the heart of the Bushwick Collective are works by: Blek le Rat, Solus, Rubin 415, Chris Stain, Dan Witz, Zimad, Joe Iurato, Sexer, Beau Stanton and Atom. And at tomorrow’s block party you can see and celebrate it all with live street art, bands, food trucks, a beer tent and giveaways.

Barcelona-based Txemy creates innovative, colorful images composed with lively lines and strokes. Muro is best-known for his fanciful characters — in a variety of uncanny situations — that make their way onto city walls. The current exhibit — “Universal Weapons” at Exit Room NY — features a range of intriguing work from both Spanish artists, including some beguiling collaborations. Here’s a sampling:
