Phlegm’s Bookish Characters in Brooklyn’s Sheepshead Bay

September 12, 2013

In his signature illustrative style, Sheffield-based Phlegm was busy these past two days gracing a huge wall in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn with his mesmerizing characters, books-in-hand.  These images were captured yesterday.

And here’s a close-up:

Brilliant pictures. Great to see a brand new Phlegm piece – thanks for posting them.

The objects in the figures’ hands look more like phones / tablets to me. I wonder if it’s another comment on people’s use of technology, like this previous piece in Sheffield called Isolated together?

That is so interesting! I’m hoping they’re books. But you may be right! Lois

An unusual connection there with another piece of Phlegm’s work – he painted a mural in Bantry which is on the Sheep’s Head Way walking route in County Cork, Ireland. I wonder if this Sheepshead Bay has a historical connection with people from Cork’s Sheep’s Head peninsula?
