Directly off the Broadway-Junction subway station — on the borderline between East New York and Brownsville — are some of NYC’s most exhilarating graffiti walls. Here are a few more images captured this past week of the murals fashioned by both locals and out-of-towners.

Sometimes they last for months; other times for weeks or even just days. But the graffiti that surfaces on Bushwick’s walls, particularly on those streets off the L line, are among NYC’s best. Here’s a small sampling of what we captured last month:

It’s been busy at the Bushwick Collective with new murals surfacing by local, regional and international artists. Here’s a small sampling of what’s been going down:

And tomorrow — Wednesday evening — at 5pm, Tyson, a dear friend of the Bushwick Collective, is opening his doors to his new restaurant, Arrogant Swine, at 173 Morgan Avenue.
Bushwick Collective founder and curator Joe Ficalora invites the Bushwick Collective fam to head over there. Expect to dine and wine with DJ’s, fire breathers, free tattoos and more surprises, along with a newly completed mural by Sexer.

These past few days have been busy at the Bushwick Collective. New walls have been surfacing daily and the Collective has launched its first indoor exhibit. Here’s a bit of what we captured yesterday and Thursday:

Also on view in the gallery — located at 426 Troutman Street — in the heart of the Bushwick Collective are works by: Blek le Rat, Solus, Rubin 415, Chris Stain, Dan Witz, Zimad, Joe Iurato, Sexer, Beau Stanton and Atom. And at tomorrow’s block party you can see and celebrate it all with live street art, bands, food trucks, a beer tent and giveaways.

The vision of Rez and Bugn ABK, a huge wall off the Broadway-Junction subway line in East New York has recently been transformed into a magical mural featuring elements of graffiti, traditional portraiture and collage. Here are some images we captured last week:

“We loved painting in this neighborhood,” reports Bugn. “We had lots of interaction with the folks who live here, and it was great to paint where folks appreciated us. This is just the beginning!” As to the choice of figures portrayed – Martin Luther King, Jr., Jackie Robinson and Abe Lincoln – Bugn had the following to say: “We’re not kids anymore. We put our heavy hitters up. These are the people who inspired us as we were growing up. Women are on the way!”

Under your leadership 5Pointz has evolved into an internationally acclaimed aerosol art Mecca. When did you first become involved in managing this space? And how did it happen?
It was back in 2002. I simply asked the landlord, Jerry Wolkoff, if I could, as the space had been neglected. And he agreed. He told me, in fact, that he loves graffiti. More after the jump!
