Brazilian Artists OSGEMEOS at Lehmann Maupin Through October 31

Twin brothers Gustavo and Otavio Pandolfo aka OSGEMEOS returned this fall to Lehmann Maupin with their magic.  Portal, their second exhibition at the Chelsea gallery, draws us into a fantastical dreamworld at a time when we most need to escape the “real” one we have been living in. The wonderfully gifted artists’ fanciful characters — fashioned in their iconic bright yellow tones in a range of uncanny settings — delight and intrigue. The image featured above, Mix Master Coconut, is is one of 13 new mixed media artworks that — according to the artists — “are like PORTALS or windows into a new dimension.”

“blue blood,” an Exhibition of New Works and Mesmerizing Installation by Kenny Scharf, Continues Through July 28 at TOTAH on the LES

Working with shades of reds, blues and grays, the legendary Kenny Scharf has fashioned a tantalizing new body of paintings. On view through July 28 at TOTAH on the Lower East Side, the artworks feature a series of alluring, surreal landscapes. The exhibition, aptly titled blue blood, both entertains and provokes, as it raises questions as to the future of our planet. Featured above is Out of the Void, painted with oil and acrylic on linen with aluminum frame. Several more images I captured while visiting the exhibit follow:

Suggestivism: Resonance at Spoke-Art NYC: Peca, Dan May, Miles Johnston, Audrey Kawasaki, Marisa Aragón Ware, Nathan Spoor & more

Conceived and curated by LA based artist and author Nathan Spoor, Suggestivism: Resonance is a wondrous journey into the surreal. Featuring over 50 artists with distinct visions of alternative realities, it opens tomorrow, Saturday, July 7, at Spoke-Art NYC and continues through July 28th, The image above, Nature of Mind,  is the work of Barcelona-based Argentine artist, Peca. In conjunction with the exhibition, a coffee table art book titled Suggestivism: Resonance will be released. Spoke-Art NYC will be hosting a book signing with Nathan Spoor and many of the participating artists from 4 – 6pm prior to the exhibition opening. The gallery is located at 210 Rivington Street on Manhattan’s Lower East Side.

The Legendary Kenny Scharf Graces Massive Central Bronx Wall With His Buoyant, Magical Characters

For the past week, Kenny Scharf has been at work on a massive mural along Third Avenue in the Bathgate section of the Bronx.  Replete with the artist’s colorful, fanciful characters, the artwork brings vibrancy and intrigue to this central Bronx neighborhood. Here are a few more images we captured yesterday:

Visible from the Cross Bronx Expressway, this mural was produced in collaboration with Krinos Foods and coordinated by KM Fine Arts.

An exhibit of Kenny Scharf‘s works remains on view at the Nassau County Museum of Art, where he will be painting live on Sunday, June 19, 12-4 p.m.
